NIGHT OF THREE ORDERS

The crisis began with grain.

Rook’s eastern convoy was approaching the city when weather closed two aerial routes. The remaining corridor crossed a defence zone still controlled by black-seal systems.

The custodians ordered the defence batteries disabled.

Marian’s legal office issued a counter-order: no inherited estate authority could command military systems pending transfer under Schedule Nine.

Nara’s assemblies issued a third instruction: the convoy should land at Lower City depots rather than central government warehouses.

All three orders were public.

None could be reconciled.

At 21:40 the first convoy aircraft entered the corridor.

Arun received calls from every side demanding that the Industrial Spine route power to their preferred batteries and landing systems.

He refused all three.

Instead he published the live system state and asked the engineers at each station to choose the configuration that maximised safe delivery.

The decision propagated sideways.

Stations coordinated with one another without waiting for a single command centre. Batteries powered down in sequence. Lower and central depots shared landing capacity. Rook split the convoy.

The grain arrived.

No authority could claim credit.

That frightened the custodians more than failure would have.

By midnight, London had discovered that coordination did not always require command.

The next morning, the custodians declared Arun’s network illegal.

Nobody switched it off.
