ABOUT THE PROJECT
THE
SLEEPER ARCHIVE
A story first, an archive second, and a physical object in development. Archive 001 retells The Sleeper Awakes across twenty-five chapters and fifty illustrated records.
START WITH
THE STORY.
The Sleeper Archive is designed for people who may never have read H. G. Wells. The first question is not whether a visitor knows the source. It is whether Graham's situation is compelling enough to make them continue.
He cannot sleep. He falls into an unexplained trance. He wakes 203 years later. Everyone he knew is dead, while the estate left behind in his name has grown into something powerful enough to shape the world around him.
WHY AN
ARCHIVE?
Each pair of records follows one chapter. Read in sequence, the fifty records form a visual route through the entire novel—from Graham's last ordinary days to the unresolved struggle at the end of Wells's revised text.
The archive format lets the same work exist in several ways: as an illustrated reading experience, as a collection of individual images, and eventually as a complete physical set.
THE PHYSICAL
OBJECT.
A physical edition is in development. The current direction uses the familiar 63 × 88 mm TCG format, but the design language is deliberately quieter: dark stock, restrained metallic detail, archive numbering and a complete fifty-record narrative rather than game statistics.
Materials and finishing remain subject to physical proofing. Public journal updates show meaningful progress without publishing printer source files, supplier pricing or production plates.
WHAT COMES
AFTER WELLS?
Archive 001 ends where Wells ends. The project does not insert later original characters or sequel mythology into his timeline.
Only after the original story is complete can The Sleeper Archive continue into its own material. That boundary is important: the adaptation should stand on its own before the universe moves beyond it.
