Changes and open questions

Revision notes

  • Twenty of 104 paragraphs differ from the 26 September text; the Rill dispatch and reserve-room passages were line edited.
  • The new pack ties accepted machine instructions, human holds and the final twelve acknowledgments to the revised paragraphs.

Unresolved in this chapter

  • The obsolete office's credential is accepted at some controllers, but no evidence identifies the person or group behind all instructions.
  • The twelve acknowledgments describe machine acceptance. Only one physical door is reported open and a second may be occupied; ten rooms remain unverified.

Established story material

A2-CHAR-ARUN · Character

Arun Vey

Investigates a credential the machinery actually accepts. He helps preserve the original ward delivery, defers the armed encounter to municipal officers and recognises the limits of staffing each threatened gate.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 7, ¶ 13, ¶ 23, ¶ 62, ¶ 63, ¶ 85, ¶ 103

Illustration continuity

Existing Engineer design remains authoritative; no new literal portrait is established.

A2-CHAR-RILL · Character

Jessa Rill

Dispatch keeper with eleven years at the fuel court. She stops a carrier on the weighing strip when no receiving crew can be identified, records her hold and accounts for the driver's extra journey.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 2, ¶ 3, ¶ 6, ¶ 19, ¶ 22, ¶ 94

Illustration continuity

New character concept: practical dispatch keeper at a wet weighing court, not a command-table aristocrat. No portrait commissioned.

A2-CHAR-HOLT · Character

Systems Clerk Holt

Separates the current transmission desk from the obsolete operational authority, avoids a blanket embargo on essential deliveries, and arranges local refusals and direct checks.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 24, ¶ 28, ¶ 37, ¶ 39, ¶ 90, ¶ 93

Illustration continuity

Maintain the municipal clerk's established role. No new portrait in this release.

A2-CHAR-ELIZA · Character

Eliza Marr

Finds evidence that the old office was abolished but lacks a complete record of revocation at dependent controllers. She distinguishes accepted exchanges, legal authority and identified actors.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 33, ¶ 35, ¶ 36, ¶ 42, ¶ 44, ¶ 88, ¶ 90

Illustration continuity

Use approved Archivist identity only; document studies do not invent new likenesses.

A2-CHAR-AMEL · Character

Amel Ryn

Reports strangers turning porters away from a familiar supply passage, supplies times and observations, and gives her account separately from the detained men's.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 50, ¶ 54, ¶ 57, ¶ 60

Illustration continuity

Porter at a working route; no armed organiser costume or invented rank.

A2-CHAR-NARA · Character

Nara Venn

Keeps the food-serving route away from a reported weapon and calls for municipal officers rather than sending volunteers into an armed confrontation.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 53, ¶ 59

Illustration continuity

Serving-court action, not a triumphant crowd-capture tableau.

A2-CHAR-AVEN · Character

Kelm Aven

Municipal officer who investigates the reserve room, detains two men, separates witness accounts and records evidence. He does not identify the controlling network or verify Ostrog's involvement.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 60, ¶ 63, ¶ 66, ¶ 68, ¶ 74, ¶ 88

Illustration continuity

Mended service coat, ordinary municipal working posture; no unsupported elite military insignia.

A2-PLACE-FUEL-COURT · Place

Rill's Fuel Dispatch Court

A wet dispatch court whose barrier accepts an obsolete credential. A local hold prevents further movement; the original ward fuel takes a separately confirmed street route.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 2, ¶ 13, ¶ 17, ¶ 19, ¶ 94

Illustration continuity

Wide low-angle court with held carriers and an empty receiving lane. No real operational gate diagram.

A2-PLACE-RESERVE-ROOM · Place

Eastern Reserve Balancing Room

An old balancing room previously used for spare rail sections, now occupied beside a forwarding relay. Cups, meal remains and a new lamp show recent human use. Detention does not stop subsequent remote acknowledgments.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 14, ¶ 47, ¶ 65, ¶ 67, ¶ 96

Illustration continuity

Interior still life: fresh bulb among old machinery, cups and flat-case mark. No copied evidence facsimile.

A2-OBJ-BLACK-WARRANT · Record

The Black-Seal Freight Warrant

Redirects fuel and lamp oil under a surviving emergency authority. Its black-sun emblem resembles an earlier transmission wrapper, but that resemblance does not identify the issuing actor or make the instruction lawful.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 8, ¶ 13, ¶ 15, ¶ 26, ¶ 31

Illustration continuity

Separate, editable editorial typography. No claim that a drawn stamp reproduces an approved definitive emblem.

A2-SYS-EXTINCT-OFFICE · System / former office

Office for the Preservation of Necessary Services

An emergency custody office abolished more than a century earlier. Some retained controller lists still accept its asserted authority. The text does not establish a citywide bypass or a universal key.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 33, ¶ 36, ¶ 37, ¶ 39

Illustration continuity

Layered office records rather than magical black-sun imagery; mechanics remain fictional.

A2-OBJ-ACCEPTED-CHALLENGE · Record

The Six-Hour Acceptance Entry

The earliest successful exchange Eliza can trace occurs six hours after the death announcement. It is a machine acceptance record, not proof of who activated the credential or whether today's sender is the same.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 42, ¶ 44

Illustration continuity

Typeset timeline with the evidence limitation attached; no invented cryptographic certificate.

A2-OBJ-SERVICE-ADDRESS-LIST · Record / artifact

The Three Marked Addresses

Three service addresses are marked on a folded list found with old trustee badges. Two are recognised; forwarding locations are not yet the origin of all commands.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 46, ¶ 69

Illustration continuity

Object study with illegible background marks; readable addresses cannot be invented from this chapter.

A2-EVENT-RESERVE-DETENTION · Event

The Reserve-Room Detention

Municipal officers detain two men after witnesses report an armed presence. A pistol is recovered. The older man's remarks about Ostrog do not establish who sent him or whether Ostrog is alive.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 63, ¶ 66, ¶ 74, ¶ 80, ¶ 82

Illustration continuity

Restrained distant scene with witnesses kept clear; no celebratory armed mob.

A2-OBJ-SUSPENSION-NOTICE · Record

The Recorded Operational Suspension

Kest seeks recorded suspension of the old office's operational authority; accepting systems are being contacted. Two courts acknowledge it, but citywide revocation is not established.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 90, ¶ 93

Illustration continuity

Editorial scope study showing acknowledged and unanswered sites. No final law or universal shutdown is implied.

A2-OBJ-TWELVE-ACKNOWLEDGMENTS · Record / event

Twelve Release Acknowledgments

Twelve service rooms acknowledge a release request after the detention. One door is reported open, another closed room appears occupied, and ten remain unchecked. Subsequent knocks come through the second room's call.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 96, ¶ 97, ¶ 98, ¶ 99, ¶ 100

Illustration continuity

Twelve unnumbered positions with distinct observed and unknown states; no invented map or claim all doors opened.

Companion records

A2-019 · companion record

The Extinct Office

The emergency office was abolished, but some retained controller lists still accept its operational authority. A current transmission desk and a matching emblem do not by themselves identify the issuing actor.

Revised chapter evidence: ¶ 26, ¶ 31, ¶ 33, ¶ 36, ¶ 37, ¶ 39, ¶ 42, ¶ 44

Continuity locks

Game concept notes

Untested story-based design candidates. Costs, statistics and rarity are not approved game rules.

A2-C10-F01 · Figure · Infrastructure / Knowledge

Jessa Rill, At the Weighing Strip

Commit a Figure to delay one declared movement at its Place until a bounded review window, rather than cancelling all opposing actions.

Design question: What existing commitment cost prevents a repeatable free lock on an opponent's only route?

Source entries: Jessa Rill, Rill's Fuel Dispatch Court

A2-C10-F02 · Figure · Authority / Knowledge

Kelm Aven, Recorded Custody

Preserves one revealed Record when an associated Figure leaves play; preserving the record does not automatically verify its claims.

Design question: Define the link through visible existing targeting, not a hidden memory of every prior interaction.

Source entries: Kelm Aven, The Reserve-Room Detention

A2-C10-P01 · Place · Infrastructure / Authority

The Reserve Balancing Room

Offers an alternate route for a bounded System action, with visible dependencies and a real cost to keep it available.

Design question: Do not make a Place into an unrestricted override of all enemy control or suppression.

Source entries: Eastern Reserve Balancing Room

A2-C10-R01 · Record · Authority / Knowledge

The Extinct Office

An old authority claim can enable one limited effect while remaining challengeable through a compared Record.

Design question: Which existing verification window allows meaningful counterplay without adding a new credential subsystem?

Source entries: Office for the Preservation of Necessary Services, The Six-Hour Acceptance Entry

A2-C10-E01 · Event · Authority

The Gate Accepted It

Redirect one declared movement while allowing a committed local Figure to contest it. Acceptance and ownership must not become equivalent.

Design question: Fix the movement declaration and response timing before testing any redirection effect.

Source entries: The Black-Seal Freight Warrant, Rill's Fuel Dispatch Court

A2-C10-R02 · Record · Knowledge / Infrastructure

A Suspension That Reaches the Gate

Limits a named recurring authority effect at one eligible System for a visible duration.

Design question: Avoid both permanent shutdown and an exception so narrow that it never matters outside a mirror match.

Source entries: The Recorded Operational Suspension

A2-C10-E02 · Event · Authority / Knowledge

Twelve Acknowledgments

Reveals a small bounded set of potential changes; inspection establishes which actually resolve. The narrative number is not a required twelve-target game effect.

Design question: Use existing reveal-and-select rules without excessive hidden bookkeeping or guaranteed mass activation.
